The "Floating" Technique!

This is what I call the "floating technique"! I made these tasty dishes after I saw Toniellison's video on making spaghetti. What you have to do is, take an eye pin, and use pliers to create a circle to glue on the bottom of the plate, then glue the fork (or other utensil of your choice), and glue it to the top of the eye pin. For more information on how to do it, go to YouTube to watch the video! If you do it correctly you'll LOVE the result!

Miniature Seafood Platter

I handmade this delicious dish during my " creative streak". I used blue pastels on the claws. It took a very long while, butI am very happy with the result!!! :D Keep sculpting!

Miniature Food Hair Clips

If you are a miniaturist the best place to go for supplies is HOBBY LOBBY!!! The have about everything thing you need! (I will show what I purchased in another post). Today I am talking about making hair clips. The best kinds are going to be the square shaped ones (because they look like dinner plates!) But if you only wanted to add maybe a donut, then get the one with the circular base! You can bake the clips along in the oven with your creation! Be sure to use TLS to make sure the miniature stays on the hair clip!!!!

MANGO!

Miniature handmade mango earrings. I was inspired to make these after I saw some like these on Etsy. It was REALLY easy to make. First, take yellow mixed with orange clay, and mix that with a large amount of translucent. Next, take a blade and make the lines so that it looks diced. To make the whole mango, get light green clay, and add green pastels all over it. Then, Take red pastels and add that to some sections of the mango. To make the stem, just add a little bit of brown clay. I hope you have fun making them!

Miniature Shrimp Sushi Earrings

This was my first attempt at making this kind of sushi. It's not too difficult, if you have a little experience with working with polymer clay. I made the shrimp with a little pit of pink and white, and a large amount of translucent. I made the rice with pure white, I textured it with a toothpick. Put a thin snake of black through your clay machine, and wrap it around the sushi.And... VWALA!... you have miniature sushi earrings! :D

Poptart earrings

I made these miniature poptarts, because I had an excess of blue icing to use. I got the sprinkles from MiniatureSweet on Etsy. I ALWAYS put a bite mark on the miniature poptarts I make! I hope you have success with your miniature food! :D

Heart Waffles

I made these miniatures after I got my heart waffle mold from Moldivate (a seller on Etsy). I got it for a GREAT price, and I highly recommend her. I got the strawberry polymer clay cane from MiniatureMakerSupply also on Etsy. I got the chocolate deco sauce from MiniatureSweet (Etsy seller). *TIP* If your clay is really soft, then pop it in the freezer while it's in the mold, so that the pattern won't get messed up.

How To Make A Miniature Cake

First, decide how many layers of cake you want. If it's only 2-4 then you can texture each one separately and add the icing between each layer to make it look more realistic, but when you do that you have to make sure the layers don't slide! If you are making a really tall cake, then just add white in between the layers, because then it will be much easier to cut! I usually put the slice of cake on a mini plate (waste not want not!). For decoration you can add a tiny rose, or a little cookie, pieces of fruit, microbeads, whipped cream, etc.!!! *TIP* Make sure the icing is THICK! :D This miniature cake was made by LittleThingsByAnna in her Etsy shop.

Ocean cake

I made this cake today, and I call it STRANDED. It was originally just supposed to be plain, but in the middle of making it creativity struck me like lightning! I hope all you guys like it! : D

Ice Cream Tutorial

To make the scoop first, roll it into a ball size of your choice, then take a needle tool and press down the edges. Next, mess them up a bit with the same tool to make it look real. After that, take a blade and make numerous lines all around the top of the scoop. To make the chocolate chips, bake a thin layer of black clay and afterwards mix them in with the clay. For a whipped cream, use a star cake tip. If you are adding a cone, bake it before hand so that you won't mess it up while adding the scoops. If you want to make it look like it's melting, add a mix of TLS and the color of your scoop. :D

My Favorite Miniature Artists

From top to bottom, these shops are Mousemarket, Petitplat, and Paris Miniatures. All of these artists are truly brilliant and creative with their miniature creations! All of these shops sell on Etsy, so if you want to see more of their work just go to Etsy.com. All these shops are very popular already, and I wish them success with their pursuits! :D

A NEAT little SCULPTURE-SOS

I made this sculpture after I found a bottle cap and a screw around the house. It's so small, that I have to keep it on this magnet, so I won't loose it! At first, it was just the red guy, bu then I thought the "boat" looked too empty, so I added his rainbow brothers! They're all busy doing something! I used microbeads for their eyes and attached thier heads with wire. I hope you get inspiration from it!

Translucent Liquid Sculpey- Uses and Purpose

Today I wanted to talk about certain mixes that you can make that will look differently in your mini projects! As most of you well know, TLS (translucent liquid sculpey) will come out translucent. If you mix TLS with oil pastels it will come out with a clear finish. If you mix it with acrylic paint, it will have the same finish, but except without the annoying pain of having to stir and mix for minutes to get out all the lumps! If TLS is mixed with ordinary polymer clay it will come out that solid color. The more you put the thicker it will be! *TIP* Putting too much oil pastel shavings, will ruin the finish you're looking for! *SECRET* The sculpey bake and bond solution as you may well know is about 1/2 the price of TLS, but what you may not know is that they're the same thing! They come out looking exactly the same and can be used for the same purpose!

Trouble Shooters

While you are working with clay, you will encounter MANY problems, but I'm here to help with some of them. Question: How do I keep the clay clean?? Answer: Wash your hands before and after each color of clay you use. Also, if you really don't want a speck of dust anywhere, wear some latex gloves! *TIP* Wiping your hand on denim will RUIN any clay project you are working on! Question: How can I get rid of fingerprints? Answer: By wearing gloves the prints won't be so clear! Question:My projects are sticking to the clay mat! Answer: This is happening either because you're using too soft of a clay, or your mat doesn't have the right surface cover.*TIP* Use a blade to peel it off without messing it up. Question: My canes are messed up after I make them, how can I prevent it? Answer: If your canes are coming out you are either messing up the pattern while you were making it, or by rolling it out the pattern got displaced in the cane. I hope all your projects come out perfect in your opinion! :D

Micro Tart

The smallest tart EVER!!!!!!!! I made this in a couple minutes. If I had a better camera you could see the lines in the fruit and the holes in the blueberries! I plan to make more miniatures this small!

Monster Sculpture

If miniature food isn't what your into, I still have some advice that can benefit :D I made this monster with inspiration from a Youtube video from Guldies that showed me his colorblending technique. I've made maybe 5 of these things! Well, the only way it will come out good is if you like what you made! I gave mine some spikes and a scar to make it look tough, and as I like to say, let your imagination guide you!

Fruit canes tips and techniques!

Do you know those erasers that as much as you rub them they will always have the same pattern? Well, polymer clay canes have the exact same properties! When you are making the cane remember that the pattern you are making now is going to be every slice of miniature fruit you use in your projects so, you have to try to be a bit of a perfectionist! Always keep in mind the number of segments in the fruit and how it actually looks in real life. When you're done instead of rolling it out (which can destroy the pattern) start squeezing it from the middle and pulling it out. When that is done cut off the thick ends and put it in the freezer for about 5 minutes and ... you have a beautiful fruit cane!!!!!!! Here are some color mixtures for the fruits
1. Lemon- yellow, and translucent(for the pulp), white, and a small amount of translucent(for the white lines), and plain yellow(for the rind)
2.Orange-a lot of translucent, and a little bit of orange(for the pulp), (use the same as the lemon for all the white lines in your fruits), and use orange (for the rind)
3.Grapefruit-red, orange, and translucent(for the pulp), a darker orange color (for the rind)

Cake tips for clay!

I wanted to talk about something today. You know how when you try to make whipped cream? Well no need to spend $10 online for a cake tip that you could but at Joanns for 0.99! With the right size cake tip you can create the nice whipped cream look you want by pushing clay through the tip! Get the smallest size, because they are not created for miniature projects after all. You can twist it to make th elook that I put on my cherry cheesecake above! You will love the look :D

Sculpting miniature meat

Sculpting meat is still one of my weak points in clay. I find that getting the right color can be very difficult sometimes! To make these cuts I used Angie Scarrs book on Miniature food making and market stalls. It's a very good book for techniques and tips on how to get that really meaty color!

The YouTube video I watched for sculpting hands & the result!

If you go on Youtube and put in how to sculpt miniature hands in polymer clay I really good tutorial will come up, and it's simple and doesn't take long at all! This is what I created from watching the video and I'm happy with the results!

Veggie land Vincent

This sculpture is called Veggie Land Vincent. This is one of my most prized sculptures! I created him after I realized that everything I was making was sweet!, so I decided to mix all the vegetables I know to make into one small sculpture! If you have any comments or questions post below! :D

Learning to sculpt

Don't start to feel bad if the things you make don't look as good as thoughts on the computer!!! A year ago I was in every sense of the word horrible at the the art of sculpting!! I'm serious I was like wow that's bad! It took 1000 YouTube videos and months of training to accomplish what I have! And  i only had time for that because I'm homeschooled. Some really good videos are produced by Toniellison and SugarCharmShop on Youtube. And remember its for fun and enjoyment that you sculpt, not to be perfect! By the way, it also takes a lot of precision and patience so if you can't sit in one place for more than 30 minutes, this is not a hobby for you.

What I use to sculpt

Most people don't know what brand of clay to use when they first start out so I will show you what I use now. I use Fimo and Sculpey brand of  clay. I don't use air dry because you couldn't use TLS ( translucent liquid sculpey). Fimo is harder than other brands, while Sculpey is very soft in my opinion. For glaze I don't recommend Sculpey because their's yellows over time. I do not recommend  plastic tools because they aren't sturdy enough for most clay projects. I have the clay mat from Sculpey though and that is great! You can bake the mat with the clay on it if you need to (I've never tried to, but I think it would work) Microbeads come in handy for decorating your projects! And don't be fooled into paying 6.00 for a little jar! I got mine from the dollar store in all colors! So, look at what's cheaper first. But remember practice is everything when it comes to sculpting!!!

My sundae and tutorial

I made this miniature banana split sundae! I tried to post a tutorial but it wouldn't show so go to my profile and you can view it there! :D

My latest creation Mr. Gibs the fish waiter. I made this fellow after my brother "accidentally" destroyed the other version, and I have to admit this one is better. *TIP* When you make a sculpture with eyes, make sure you put extra glaze on the eyes, so you won't see the fingerprints as much.It will also help them look really even, and smoothed out.

How to make a miniature sculpture

When you decide on what you are going to make, you have to decide how big of a miniature you want it to be. For example if you were making a fruit tart, you have to decide whether it is going to be a dollhouse miniature or a keychain etc. A lot of people make their miniatures in 1:12 scale, because those are the ones that are invented to be in a dollhouse. You don't want to give something a 5 inch miniature cake with their 1:12 other food creations, so always have that in mind! Before I make a sculpture I set up everything and then..... Sit there staring at the wall waiting for creativity to strike like lighting! So, basically let your imagination guide the way and you will never make a bad sculpture.:D

The Miniature World.

For all you people out there who are unfamiliar with the complicated art of miniature, you are missing out on a whole world of fantastic (but tiny) artwork from a variety of artists all around the globe! In this blog you can post your own creations, and give your advice on certain techniques that have come about by trial and error, so make haste!! POST :D
